Where in Sussex – Round 52
CLUE 1
Today’s location had flooding problems, like many others, seven years ago. The river here, which is usually unnoticed, popped out of its hole and gave real problems for the authorities and some residents, as it blocked a major route through it. Other parts of the location were also affected by the bad weather in other ways.
CLUE 2
During the First World War our location was home to a hospital for wounded soldiers. Sadly, quite a few of them died here and they are remembered at a memorial nearby. The building used as the hospital was seen as ideal for the purpose and today is open as a museum, which is a popular tourist attraction.
CLUE 3
Served well by transport, our location has had road, rail and ferry links. The a closed down railway is remembered by an architectural design on a shop next to a main road and a disused rail tunnel burrows its way under part of the town.
