Today I set myself an early morning challenge: I decided that I would ride from Newhaven, through Seaford, Littlington, Alfriston and then along the foot of the downs to Beddingham, then back to Newhaven. Total distance 20.7 miles.

The ride goes through the Cuckmere Valley, which was lovely, and then the Old Coach Road, which, in parts, was pretty boggy. The work that ESCC have done along the Old Coach Road in the last few years makes it mainly OK, but the section from Comp Barn to New Barn was a bit of a disgrace. It made for an interesting descent, as the tree roots were exposed by erosion and the ground was very sticky and waterlogged.

It was quite a long ride, but I felt OK after it, and had a nice lunch and a watch of a bizarre Formula 1 race!
